  • Comprehensive Care
    From screening mammograms and genetic risk counseling to diagnostic tests, in-office procedures and emotional support, our Breast Health Center has it all.
  • Fast Appointments, Rapid Results
    St. Francis is home of the “30-minute Mamm,” with most women in and out within 30 minutes for a screening mammogram. Mammogram results are usually available within five days, and women diagnosed with breast cancer are in a surgeon’s office within two days of diagnosis.
  • Convenience
    We are open from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on weekdays, and open on Saturdays to accommodate busy schedules.

Our Team


 
 
We take a comprehensive, team approach to breast health. Our team is led by Gail Thomas, MD, Ph D, who is one of the Upstate’s first female breast surgeons. Dr. Thomas serves as the medical director of the St. Francis Breast Health Center, leads the weekly Breast Tumor Board, and sees patients at Carolina Surgical Associates in Greenville.
 
She earned a doctorate in physiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she later completed medical school, and she completed her surgical residency at St. Louis University Medical Center. In addition, she completed a Surgical Oncology fellowship at City of Hope National Medical Center in Los Angeles.
 
Our team also includes Julie Eggert, PhD, APRN-BC, AOCN, who leads our Cancer Risk Screening Program (CRiSP). Julie is an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse with  more than 35 years of experience in nursing, as well as a master’s degree in Nursing. Additionally, she received a PhD in Microbiology and a Post-Master’s Certificate as a nurse pracitioner. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the NINR/Georgetown University Summer Genetics Institute and is a member of the SC Nurses’ Association, Oncology Nursing Society and the International Society  of Nurses in Genetics.
 
Kathy Koger, RN, rounds out our Breast Health team by serving as Breast Health Navigator. In this role, she offers emotional support and education to ensure our patients know all of their options and understand exactly what to expect during their testing and treatment. Kathy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and has more than 20 years of nursing experience with a focus on women’s health.
