Oncology Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation services for cancer patients are offered through a program called Moving On. Nutritional counseling, strength training, aerobic conditioning and other services through Moving On are designed to help cancer patients return to their normal activities. Whenever possible, patients begin Moving On even while they're in the hospital, starting with low-level bed exercises and walking, as appropriate.
Outpatients enrolled in Moving On engage in structured, supervised physical activity based on their own therapy,
restrictions and energy levels. Outpatient rehabilitation usually lasts 8 to 10 weeks, followed by a supervised maintenance phase for
patients who need continued monitoring.
Moving On requires a physician referral. Once the patient is enrolled, a team of specialists,
including the referring physician, a registered nurse, a social worker, a physical
therapist, a chaplain, and exercise specialist, will assess the patient's needs
and recommend an individualized rehabilitation program.
Moving On is offered in conjunction with the CancerCenters of the Carolinas.
